The Ride Her Cup 2026

All play is governed by the USGA Rules of Golf unless otherwise noted below.

Format Overview

The Ride Her Cup is contested over two days between Team Red and Team Blue (10 players each). A total of 30 points are available. 15.5 points wins the Cup.

  • Saturday AM: Scramble, Chapman (Pinehurst), or Foursomes (format voted on by players) — 5 matches × 1 point = 5 pts
  • Saturday PM: Four-Ball (Best Ball) — 5 matches × 1 point = 5 pts
  • Sunday: Singles (Match Play) — 10 matches × 2 points = 20 pts

A halved match awards 0.5 points to each team. A team needs 15.5 points to win the Cup outright.

Foursomes (Alternate Shot)

Two players from the same team play one ball, alternating shots throughout each hole. The player who putts out on a hole is not the player who tees off on the next hole — the order of play strictly alternates.

  • Tee assignments: One player tees off on odd-numbered holes, the other on even-numbered holes. This must be decided before the round and cannot change.
  • Team handicap: Each player's course handicap is calculated individually. The team handicap is round((P1 course HCP + P2 course HCP) ÷ 2).
  • Stroke allocation: The higher-handicap team receives strokes on the holes with the lowest stroke indexes. The difference between team handicaps equals the number of strokes given.
  • If a player incurs a penalty, the partner plays the next shot.
  • Out of turn: If the wrong partner plays a stroke, the opposing team may immediately require the stroke to be cancelled. The correct player must replay from the original spot with no penalty. The right to cancel must be exercised before either side plays a subsequent stroke.

Four-Ball (Best Ball)

Two players from the same team each play their own ball throughout. The better net score of the two partners counts as the team score for each hole.

  • Individual handicaps: Each player receives their full individual course handicap. Strokes are applied on holes where the stroke index is at or below the player's course handicap.
  • If one partner is out of the hole, the other can complete it alone for the team.
  • A player can choose not to play a hole without penalty to the partner.

Singles (Match Play)

One player from Team Red faces one player from Team Blue. Each plays their own ball. The player with the lower net score wins each hole.

  • Handicap: Full stroke difference. |Player A course HCP − Player B course HCP|. The higher-handicap player receives that many strokes on the holes with the lowest stroke indexes.
  • Simultaneous matches: All 8 singles matches may play simultaneously. Live scores are tracked on the app.
  • Sudden death playoff: If a match finishes all square after 18 holes, players may contest sudden death from hole 1 to determine a half-point winner, at the discretion of the Tournament Director.
  • A player may concede a hole, a stroke, or the match at any time.

General Rules

  • USGA Rules apply for all situations not covered by local rules below.
  • Lift, clean and place: In effect for all rounds. A ball anywhere through the green (not in a hazard or bunker) may be lifted, cleaned, and placed within one scorecard length of its original spot, no nearer the hole. Mark the ball before lifting.
  • Gimmes: Any putt inside the leather (roughly 18–20 inches) may be conceded by the opposing team. No holing out required. The conceded putt counts as one stroke.
  • Lost ball / OB: Stroke and distance applies. Players may invoke the optional local rule for lateral relief at 2 strokes penalty to keep pace of play.
  • Ready golf is mandatory. Hit when ready — do not wait for honour if the order of play doesn't matter strategically.
  • Maximum score per hole: In the interest of pace, players may pick up when a hole is mathematically lost with no further skins interest.
  • Pace of play: Each group should aim to complete 18 holes in under 4.5 hours. Groups may be warned by the Tournament Director.

Skins Rules

  • Pool: $400 per round ($20 × 20 players). The base value of each hole is $400 ÷ 18 ≈ $22.22.
  • Net scores: Full individual course handicap is applied. Net score = gross score − strokes received on that hole. The player with the lowest unique net score wins the skin.
  • Ties (carryovers): If two or more players tie for the lowest net score on a hole, no skin is awarded. The hole's pot carries over and is added to the value of the next hole.
  • Hole 18: If hole 18 is still tied (no outright low net), the accumulated pot is split equally among all players who tied hole 18 with the lowest net score.
  • In Foursomes, the team score is used for skins (one net score per pair). In Singles, all 20 individual scores compete.

Longest Drive

  • Contested on a designated Par 5 hole each day (set by Tournament Director in Admin).
  • Tee shot must come to rest in the fairway (not rough, hazard, or OB). If out of bounds or rough, it does not count.
  • Measurement: Distance from tee to ball where it came to rest. No handicap applied — raw distance.
  • Tie: Both tied players re-tee immediately after the group finishes. The longer re-hit wins.
  • Result recorded by Tournament Director on the Admin page.

Closest to the Pin

  • Contested on a designated Par 3 hole each day (set by Tournament Director in Admin).
  • Measured as the straight-line distance from the ball at rest to the centre of the cup.
  • No handicap applied — raw physical distance only.
  • A player whose tee shot misses the green does not qualify (must be on the putting surface).
  • Result (winner + measurement) recorded by Tournament Director on the Admin page.
