Open Cup entry policy

Last updated October 4, 2026

An Open Cup is 24 golfers who don't know each other, drafted into two teams of 12 for a day of match play. It only works if the handicaps are honest and everyone turns up. When you tick "I've read the entry policy" at sign-up, these are the rules you agree to.

The rules in brief

  • Your index is checked

The host club looks up your Golf Canada index before the draft. You play off the lower of your current index and your 12-month low.

  • Withdrawing

Withdraw more than 21 days out for a full refund. Inside 21 days there's no refund, but you can pass your spot to a friend. The first alternate moves up when a player withdraws.

  • No-shows

A no-show without notice is charged $100 and can't enter for the rest of the season. A team of 12 needs all 12.

  • Results are reviewed

Winning scores are checked against each player's index. A wrong index forfeits prizes and can mean disqualification.

Who can enter

  • You need a Gimme Tourneys account and a current Golf Canada membership with a Handicap Index.
  • Each Open Cup has an index limit, shown on its page. Your index must be at or under it when you sign up and when it's checked.
  • You must meet any age rule the host course sets.

Your Golf Canada number and index

We ask for your Golf Canada member number and your Handicap Index so the host club can look up your index before the draft. The organiser and the host club can see your number; other players can't. You play off the lower of your current index and your 12-month low. We keep the number with that entry, and it's deleted with your account. The privacy policy has more.

Paying

The entry fee is shown on each Open Cup's page, and you pay it there by card (through Stripe) after you sign up. Your place is confirmed once you've paid. If you haven't paid by the deadline the organiser sets, your place can be offered to the first alternate.

Withdrawing and refunds

  • More than 21 days out: withdraw on the Open Cup page for a full refund.
  • 21 days or fewer: no refund. You can pass your spot to a friend: email us their name and Golf Canada number, and they'll go through the same index check.
  • When a player withdraws, the first alternate moves into the field and we email them.
  • If the Open Cup is cancelled by the host or by us, every entry is refunded in full. If weather stops play part-way, the host decides whether it's rescheduled or results stand; we'll explain what happens to entry fees at the time.

No-shows

A team of 12 needs all 12. If you don't turn up and didn't tell us beforehand, you're charged $100 on top of your entry and can't enter another Open Cup for the rest of the season. If something happens on the day, email hello@gimmetourneys.golf or tell the host club as early as you can; telling us before your tee time counts as notice.

Results and prizes

Winning scores are checked against each player's index. If an index turns out to be wrong, that player forfeits any prize and the organiser can disqualify them. The organiser's decision on results and prizes is final.
